The Uyghur Freedom Institute urgently calls on the U.S. government to protect and fully fund the Uyghur Service of Radio Free Asia (RFA). At a time when the Chinese government continues its campaign of repression against Uyghurs, RFA’s Uyghur-language journalism remains a critical lifeline for millions seeking truth beyond China’s censorship.
Any reduction or halt in funding would severely weaken the major independent Uyghur-language news source reporting on human rights abuses, forced labor, and the ongoing genocide. The United States must stand firm in its commitment to press freedom and human rights by ensuring RFA’s Uyghur Service continues its essential work.
We urge Congress and the administration to reject any cuts and reaffirm America’s leadership in defending the voices of the oppressed.
